Laura Ashley and Print.

Quite simply the 'reverse print' method used here by Laura Ashley is to print the blue background around the flowers onto a white fabric base, rather than to print white flowers on to a blue background.

The reason for this is because its easier and provides a 'purer' colour when you print a colour on to white - in fact you can use a dye as apposed to an emulsion. The fabric is there fore sleeker and the print won't crack. If you were to print white onto a colour the paste would have to be so thick it would a residue or surface on the fabric that over time would crack and possibly fall off.

By using the 'reverse print' the cotton fabric is a pure and crisp today as it was in the late 1970's.
